Monique Lhuillier was born in Cebu City in the Philippines and began her label in 1996, working out of the basement of her parents' Malibu home right after she had designed her own wedding dress. Her husband, Tom Bugbee, joined the business as it grew, and the company is still based in Los Angeles and still independent. Her big break came when she designed Britney Spears' wedding dress for her 2004 marriage to Kevin Federline, and the brand has since added evening wear, ready-to-wear and bridesmaids alongside bridal. The style leans glamorous and feminine, with romantic florals, ruffles and clean, simple silhouettes that can read as either classic or a little playful. In our catalog most gowns land between roughly $2,300 and $7,200, with a median around $4,000, and the brand's own site shows full gowns at roughly $5,000 to $7,000.
